In 2006, an interdisciplinary team with exponents
from Eawag, EPF Lausanne, and ETH Zurich in collaboration with African
institutions started a research project on integrated water resource management
in the Zambezi River Basin. This study deals with problems related to river
damming from various perspectives.

Why Dams?
Dams offer ways to solve problems of developing countries by producing
hydroelectricity, by enhancing water supply, by enabling irrigation, and by providing
flood protection. However, construction and operation of dams lead to economic,
social and environmental problems.
